The Mirror Boy, Starring Genevieve Nnagi and Osita Iheme (popularly known as Porpor), is a family adventure spanning Britain and The Gambia. It tells a compelling and uplifting story of a young British-born African teenage boy called Tijan who is taken back to the birthplace of his mother, Teema (Genevieve Nnaji). Once in The Gambia, Tijan gets mysteriously lost in a crowded market after witnessing a strange apparition. He then embarks on a magical journey that teaches him about himself and the mystery of a father he has never met.
This movie, shot in the terrain of The Gambia explores the powerful issues of self-identity, the beauty and uniqueness of being African. It tells the African story beautifully and encourages all Africans all over the world to be proud of being African.
However, the end of the movie was a bit blurred and an anti-climax to an otherwise interesting story. This would no doubt take quite a lot from the movie because the worst way to end an adventure story is an unclear end to the suspense. Genevieve Nnaji during her very short showcase at the end of the premier publicly asked the producer why so much was taken away from the movie. This may probably be the reason for this.
Written and directed by Nigerian film legend, Obi Emelonye, and produced by OH Films’ Patrick Campbell, this movie has already made history earlier this year when it hosted the biggest UK movie premiere of an African film at the world famous Empire Leicester Square and being the widest released Nollywood film in the UK.
This movie is definitely a must-see for all.
